September 2019

May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.

Ruth 2:12

These are children from the surrounding village of our new Refuge Center and are learning guitar and keyboard (drums, too, but not pictured). Two of the leaders at this Center have always dreamed about and prayed for a Church/Center to reach children with the gospel through musical and academic education. God has answered those prayers and ours! We, of course, could not do this without you! We are grateful for those of you who help through sponsoring students and/or giving to our project fund which allows us to purchase musical instruments, hire leaders, pay for the upkeep of our ministry sites and the many more associated costs with running these centers! God has sent you to make our dreams and prayers come true!

It’s so wonderful to watch how God brings these students to us. Some come to us through village pastors and some grew up in our ministry. Some of our own college students meet fellow students who may be ready to drop out because of finances or know of someone in need in their village and bring them to meet us.

First year students are scared, not knowing what our dorm will be like for them. They come without much but thankful for the chance to go to college. Because of poverty, mostly all our students will be the first family member to every attend college.

We love to watch them grow in God while preparing for their futures. In 2 more years, there will be (from left to right), an accountant, 3 teachers, IT professional, another teacher, Biology professor, teacher and accountant in the work force in Cambodia! We also have 3 students outside the dorm. Two are studying engineering and one, accounting. Two more are just entering the dorm this year.

Again, we are grateful for our sponsors and although some of these young people don’t have sponsors, we thank God that somehow, some way, God sees our need and answers it! God loves the poor!

Our ministry sites love to have gifts that they can bless their students/disciples with from time to time. It’s a way we can show Christ’s love to the poor. One of our supporting churches, St. Stephen’s in Feasterville, sent along 50 pairs of “The Shoe That Grows” for the second time. We were able to bless children at our Mother’s Home and our Sensok Center where our college students minister. This little girl pictured was so excited about her shoes but she later exchanged her pink ones for blue!! We also carried a huge bag (80 or so?) Beanie Babies and student gifts from their sponsors. Thank you for your gifts!

  1. For our students and leaders: Please “continually ask God to fill you (them) with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you (they) may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you (they) may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father…”
  2. Please pray for the unity of our staff.
  3. Greg decided not to take the chemo pill along with radiation as it made him very sick. He will be finished radiation mid-October and will have a CAT scan to check the effectiveness of the treatment. Please pray there is no more cancer.
  4. Please continue to pray that our son and his wife will be able to adopt their foster daughter who they have raised for 2 years.
  5. Please pray that those at our new Refuge Center will reach many students and their families with the good news of Jesus Christ.
