Lykeang’s Christian School

In 2014, Lykeang graduated from high school and moved to Refuge for the Poor dorm located in Phnom Penh to pursue college. Because of his bad high school experience and what he went through as a child of divorced parents, Lykeang knew in the back of his mind that he wanted to do something about it. He started to ask questions like, “why do bad things happen to me? What plans does God have for me? What can I do about this situation?” While pondering all this and living in the dorm, Lykeang drew close to Jesus, was baptized, ministered with Refuge for the Poor ministries, and studied hard at University. Later that year, he realized that he was being called into some type of education ministry and began forming a vision.

In the summer of 2015, a mission team from the U.S. visited Refuge for the Poor and Lykeang was the translator for that team. The leader of the team approached Lykeang during one of the breaks and said, “tell me about yourself.” Lykeang then talked about his life in the province and how poor the education is in Cambodia. Lykeang also mentioned that he wanted to start a Christian school someday in his hometown province. The team leader encouraged Lykeang that “with God, all things are possible.” Shortly after, Lykeang was offered a full scholarship to Liberty University in the U.S. He spent 6 years there pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and a Master’s degree in Executive Leadership and Coaching.

During Lykeang’s time in the U.S. and being mentored by different godly people, Lykeang grew deeper in his faith in God. His vision for the school became clearer. He wants to “see young Cambodians rise up to be Christ-centered leaders so that they can break the cycles - whether it is poverty, generational trauma, alcoholism or school drop-outs. To reach that vision, Lykeang will choose a Christian curriculum that equips the students to be strong Christ followers, academically sound and be the light and Christ-centered leaders in their families, communities, and society. He wants his school to be a bilingual school where students are excellent at communicating in Khmer and in English for better futures. Lykeang also learned that students with less money don’t have access to good education or opportunities in life. Therefore, underprivileged students are his priority when it comes to enrollment quotas. This means that Lykeang’s school will be a non-profit school.

Right now, Lykeang has returned to Cambodia to begin making his vision a reality! He is currently working as an Academic Advisor for two international high schools in Phnom Penh. He loves his job and the opportunity to just observe how an international school is operated. He will soon begin looking for land prospects in his hometown province, Preah Vihear, to build a school.
